Accessing HP Quality Center 10

You can access HP Quality Center 10 repositories via Internet Explorer, the HP Quality Center Explorer, or Tasktop Dev Enterprise. We recommend using Tasktop Dev Enterprise for most actions. Note that you will need to use Internet Explorer or Quality Center Explorer to create server-side filters.

Tasktop Dev Enterprise

If you are connecting to HP QC 10, you must add the HP Quality Center Connectivity add-in from the add-ins page of your HP Quality Center installation. (If your HP QC 10 repository URL is http://example.com, then the the add-ins page is at http://example.com/addins.html.) Adding the Quality Center Connectivity add-in will download an executable to your computer.

Note that this executable is 32-bit code, which means that you must use a 32-bit version of Tasktop Dev Enterprise with a 32-bit version of Java. You will need to download a 32-bit version of Eclipse (or IBM Rational Team Concert’s rich client) and then install Tasktop Dev Enterprise into Eclipse. After you have downloaded and installed a 32-bit version of Eclipse, go to http://tasktop.com/support/download/updatesite.php and follow the instructions there.

Once you have Tasktop Dev installed, go to the Task Repositories View and click on the New Repository icon, or select Add Task Repository from the context menu. Fill in the fields for Server, Label, User ID, Password, Domain, and Project as described in Connecting to HP Quality Center and ALM .

See the Tasktop Dev Users' Manual for information on how to create, modify, and list tasks in the HP QC 10 repository with Tasktop Dev.

Internet Explorer

To connect to HP Quality Center 10, we recommend Internet Explorer 8 patch 5. There are a number of operating system and hardware requirements as well; see the HP QC 10 Installation Manual; see the section starting on page 46, Quality Center Client-Side Prerequisites, for information on the client-side requirements, including the Internet Explorer setup. See Chapter 8, Installing Quality Center Add-ins, for more on installing the web client.

The web interface to HP QC 10 uses Active-X components inside Internet Explorer. As Active-X can be used maliciously, it is common for security software to block its use. In order for you to connect to HP QC with the Web interfaces at all, Active-X and Javascript must be enabled, and the browser security settings need to be dialed down. The first time you open QC, you might need to run Internet Explorer with elevated permissions, so that the ActiveX control can be installed. See the HP QC 10 Installation Manual for details on installing the web interface.

Quality Center Explorer

If you have trouble downloading Active-X controls or are prevented from doing so by corporate policy, you can try using the Quality Center Explorer. Append “ClientSide_index.html” to the URL for Quality Center to get the download site. For example, if your HP QC 10 repository is at https://example.com/qcbin, then you should download the Quality Center Explorer from http://example.com/qcbin/ClientSide_index.html. You can also try http://update.external.hp.com/qualitycenter/qc100/, but you are more likely to get the exact version needed if you download from your own installation.

Accessing HP ALM 11

You can access HP ALM 11 repositories via Internet Explorer, the HP ALM Explorer, or Tasktop Dev Enterprise. We recommend using Tasktop Dev Enterprise for most actions. Note that you will need to use Internet Explorer or ALM Explorer to create server-side filters.

Tasktop Dev Enterprise

If you are using HP ALM 11, you should use the REST configuration with the Tasktop Certified QC Connector.

In Tasktop Dev, go to the Task Repositories View and click on the New Repository icon, or select Add Task Repository from the context menu. Fill in the fields for Server, Label, User ID, Password, Domain, and Project as described in Connecting to HP Quality Center and ALM

Next, click on the disclosure triangle next to Additional Settings and select HP ALM 11 (REST) from the dropdown menu for Server Version.

See the Tasktop Dev Users' Manual for information on how to create, modify, and list tasks in the HP ALM 11 10 repository with Tasktop Dev.

Internet Explorer

To connect to HP ALM 11 with Internet Explorer, we recommend Internet Explorer 9 (with Service Pack 2). There are a number of additional hardware and software requirements: see the HP ALM 11 Installation Guide for the full list.

The web interface to QC ALM uses Active-X components inside Internet Explorer. As Active-X can be used maliciously, it is common for security software to block its use. In order for you to connect to HP QC/ALM Web interfaces at all, Active-X and Javascript must be enabled, and the browser security settings need to be dialed down. Refer to the HP ALM 11 Installation Guide for configuration information.

ALM Explorer

If you have trouble downloading Active-X controls or are prevented from doing so by corporate policy, you can try using the HP ALM Explorer Add-in. Append “ClientSide_index.html” to the URL for Quality Center to get the download site. For example, if your HP QC 10 repository is at https://example.com/qcbin, then you should download the Quality Center Explorer from http://example.com/qcbin/ClientSide_index.html. You can also try http://update.external.hp.com/qualitycenter/qc110/others/almexplorer/index.html, but you are more likely to get the exact version needed if you download from your own installation.
